Five million Ghanaians don't have access to potable water

The Water, Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH) in a report says five million Ghanaians do not have access to clean and potable water.

80% of Ghana's population have access to improved water sources.

According to a post on United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) website even though Ghana has made significant progress in providing potable water to 80% of the Ghanaian population about  4,000 Ghanaian children die each year from diarrhea.

The report further added that the country has also eliminated Guinea worm from the affected communities.

The report also revealed that one in five Ghanaians have no access to a toilet and defecate in the open, with open defecation rates over 70% in Northern Ghana.
