Two soldiers with the Tamale Airborne Force allegedly beat a 16-year-old boy, whom they accused of stealing a mobile phone, until he became unconscious.

The Chronicle newspaper reported on Thursday that the victim, Christopher Bama, who was said to be in a critical condition at the Nsawam Government Hospital, was accused of stealing the TECNO branded mobile phone which belonged to one of the soldiers, Corporal Sampson Atuahene.

According to the report, Corporal Atuahene and Collins Agyei Boamah, handcuffed and hanged the boy on a mango tree, after which they subjected him to beatings until he fell unconscious.

The soldiers further melted plastic bags onto the naked body of Bama until he regained consciousness, the report added.

A senior sister of the victim, Patience Bama, told the Chronicle that her brother, who had gone to fetch water at the barracks, denied stealing the phone.
