Bukom Banku, a professional Ghanaian boxer, has provided bizarre reasons for bleaching his skin and asked the public not to worry about him.
Confirming it in an interview on Accra-based Radio Gold on Thursday, the boxer said he was bleaching because he hoped to be named Ghana's ambassador to Germany after President John Mahama's second term election victory in November.
"I am bleaching myself for German people to know that German people and Bukom Banku are one.... So if you see me now, you will observe that I am from Germany. I want Ghanaians to know that I am a German now," he said.
Bukom Banku dismissed suggestions that bleaching would harm his skin, stressing that he was using special cream and medication to protect himself.
He urged members of the public not to worry about him because his bleaching was temporary.
"People shouldn't be worried. I am changing my system for a while. I want to tell Ghanaians not to worry about me. I will bleach till August and then stop," he said.
