The body of Papa Wemba has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo after his death on Sunday in Ivory Coast.
Papa Wemba, one of Africa's best known singers collapsed and died on stage while performing in Ivory Coast. In view of his death an all-night concert has been held in his honour in Abidjan.
The BBC reports that hundreds of people waited outside Kinshasa's airport including his wife and family for the body's arrival on Thursday.
On arrival at Kinshasa’s airport, a memorial service was held in his honour at the airport with Government officials and diplomats attending.
The singer’s body has since been taken to a morgue. He is due to be buried on Tuesday after lying in state in a stadium in DR Congo's capital, Kinshasa, on Monday.
Papa Wemba, who died aged 66, was considered one of Africa's most influential musicians of his generation. He pioneered modern Congolese soukous music, which spread through the continent.
