Babatola, a mobile phone technician has confessed to the crime of murdering his girlfriend and her family to the police.
The suspect revealed that he set the family on fire and decided to commit suicide after his act but was dissuaded by James, his younger brother, who asked him to report the incident to the police.
Explaining what led to the tragedy, the suspect said his relationship with Janet, a divorcee started turning whenever he demanded for sex and was taunted and turned down.
Babatola said matters turned feisty on April 12 when Janet called him “mugu” and informed him that his mother had told her that he suffered from hernia and hence she could not continue the relationship.
He added that upon taking the phone he bought for Janet after the altercation, Janet’s cousin, Tapheal fought him and rain insults on him. This, he said led him to move to stay with a friend in an area called Arab Road in Bwari.
Babatola added that the persistent calls and threats from Janet’s family to stay away from their sister got him so upset that he decided to set the whole family ablaze on the night of April 15. An act he regrets and says he is being haunted by the children.
The culprit has since been detained by the FCT Special Anti-Robbery Squad
