All is set for the biggest game in the history of Ghana football involving Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium which has a fierce rivalry in Ghana and akin to the likes of Spain’s el classico which has Real Madrid v Barcelona.
It is the 10 week of the GPL and ahead of the clash, motivation in both camps is high and it looks like we are going to have a game which promises to be uncompromising.
Hearts of Oak won against Ashanti Gold SC 2-1 in Obuasi for the first time in 7 years last Sunday and looks poised to upset the scale once again against Kotoko who they have found it difficult to beat in Accra for some time now.
Kotoko are coming into this game, having lost by a solitary 1-0 to New Edubiase in a local derby at the Baba Yara Stadium last Saturday.
Hearts will miss Thomas Abbey and Richard Yamoah in the match but will take solace in the fact that game changers like Samuel Yeboah, Kennedy Appiah, Ashitey Ollenu and Samudeen Ibrahim are all back from their respective injuries.
On the other hand Asante Kotoko are not only motivated by the comeback of goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi but also the delivery to the club, a brand new Yutong bus by its life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last week.
Statistics has it that, of the total 102 matches played, Hearts of Oak have won 34 with Kotoko winning 32 whilst 36 games have been drawn between the two sides.
Meanwhile, with of Hearts of Oak losing only one of their last fourteen premier league games, and their rivals Asante Kotoko losing four this season, the Phobians would have been huge favourites, but connoisseurs of the game say games involving the two sides hardy follow any form guide and that the match could go either way.
So the battle lines are drawn at the Accra stadium for Ghana’s version of the ‘el classico’.
