Movie producer Socrates Sarfo on Tuesday, May 3 celebrated twenty-eight years of the release of his first movie. So which movie was his first?
Socrate wrapped up production for 'Unconditional Love' on July 1, 1986 and released it for public screening on May 3 , 1988 at the Globe Cinema in Accra. The premiere received an overwhelming patronage and according to reports, Socrates even shed some tears on the day.
Remembering the journey Socrate wrote on Facebook, Tuesday morning: “I will never forget the fear that gripped me when I saw the crowd at the gate, the tears that I shed alone as the first laughter bust out from the audience five minutes into the screening. Today, hundreds are making a living directly out of what I started as a kid living on the streets of Bukom with a dream. Thank you God for bringing me this far.”
Socrate is a native of Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern Region of Ghana but he was born in Accra. He attended Amamomo-1 Primary, then to Ayalolo-1 Boys Middle School. He then proceeded to the Mercedes Benz GNTC Technical Institute.
Socrates grew up on the streets of Bukom and started movie making since the 80s.
