EC condemns violence at registration centers

The electoral commission is blaming political party representatives for the pockets of violence at some registration centers in the ongoing limited voters registration exercise thus asking the police to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the violence.

Director of Administration of the EC, Mr Christian Owusu-Parry, said the violence led to the destruction of the EC’s registration kits and attack on some of its officials at two registration centers in the Ashanti Region.

The EC started the limited registration exercise on April 28, 2016 to give opportunity to Ghanaians who have turned 18  and others who could not register in the last registration exercise to do so.

The first phase of the exercise ended on Monday, May 2, 2016 as the break was to allow the registration officials to have their rest and organize themselves for the start of the second and final part of the exercise from today to May 8, 2016.
