VRA begins first test transmission on Kpone thermal plant
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has begun its first test transmission of the first unit of the newly built Kpone Thermal Power Plant (KTPP).

The first unit, known as the hot commissioning process currently generates 100 megawatts which is being fed into the national grid.
The Simple Cycle Thermal Power Project which commenced in 2012 and involves the construction of two gas turbines (110 megawatts each) at $220 million will produce 220 megawatts of electricity when installed.

The dual-fuel turbines expected to operate on natural gas and distillate fuel oil is a government of Ghana/VRA project which is expected to be inaugurated later this year by President John Mahama.
