Pupils of Azizakpe D/A Basic School in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region walk through the Volta river to school, risking their lives in the process.
In the process of crossing the Volta River, the pupils' get their learning materials including bags, books and school uniforms wet before getting to school, making learning very difficult.
Speaking to Atinka News, Moses Gbli Pertiafo, the Headmaster of the school revealed that the destructive nature of the river has led to the destruction of all the foot bridges and paths that link the Island to the school.
This he said compels the the pupils to walk through the river each day to school. The situation has also led to inadequacy of teachers in the school.
The school which is made up of nursery and primary, has only two teachers, making teaching very difficult.
The development according to Mr. Pertiafo has prompted many parents to relocate their wards to schools in Ada Foah and other areas.
He therefore appealed to corporate bodies, spirited individuals and particularly the government to come to their aid before things gets out of hand.
