FIFA appoints Joseph Lamptey for Rio Olympics

The FIFA Referees Committee has confirmed Ghana's Joseph Lamptey as one of the match officials for the men's competition of the Olympic Football Tournament in Brazil this year.

Referee Joseph Lamptey receives an FA award

He was born on 10th September 1974 in Accra and speaks Ga, Twi, English and French. He is the son of Rtd referee Major Lamptey.

He was one of the referees for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. In 2009, he was promoted as African Elite referee in 2009 from Africa's Young Talent and invited to participate in the African Under 17 football tournament In Algeria.

Lamptey and Peru's Haro Diego are the only two supporting referees on the list of 18 referees and 32 assistant referees appointed by FIFA.

The Olympic Football Tournament scheduled for Rio, will take place from August 3rd – 21, 2016.
