Over 3000 unpaid teachers to protest at finance ministry

A group of over three thousand teachers will protest at the Ministry of Finance this week over the non-payment of their salary arrears.

The group, which calls itself the ‘Unpaid Teachers’, said it would protest because it members had not been paid salaries for two years.

The teachers said despite having been cleared by the audit service for payment, nothing was yet to be received from the finance ministry.

They added that teacher unions had abandoned them because they were not paying due to those unions.

“We were validated on the field. A team of auditors comprising GES and other organisations came on the field last year, 2015 November-December and we were assured that our report has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and our checks confirmed that the report was submitted on the 30th March, but as at now, we have not heard anything from them again,” the group said in a statement.
