The Wenchi Municipal Police Command saved a man and his son from being lynched by an angry mob at Tain in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The two men had been suspected of carrying out a string of killings in the area, including the murder of two mentally-deranged people last month, a report by citifmonline said on Monday.
News that the mentally-deranged people had been killed for alleged ritual purposes sparked fear and panic within the community, prompting some angry residents to seek out the two suspects and attempt to kill them.
However, the police intervened and prevented the mob from carrying out the crime, according to the report.
The police were said to have been pelted with sticks and stones as they attempted to rescue the two.

The police said an investigation was underway to determine whether the two men were responsible for the serial killings, adding that, by law, everyone was innocent until proven guilty.
