The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it does not support calls for the Electoral Commission to reopen the just ended limited registration exercise to enable people who could not register to do so.
Director of Elections for the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, told Accra-based Kasapa FM that such an extension would only encourage people to seek more extensions.
He said by nature, Ghanaians loved to wait till the last day before registering and that even if the programme was extended, similar challenges would be recorded.
Mr Ampofo said the EC set out to achieve certain targets ahead of the registration exercise and that if the commission achieved them, it should proceed with its timetable for the November elections.
He added that the commission was already under pressure to meet all its schedules ahead of the elections, including exhibition and cleaning of the register, and so extending the limited voter registration exercise would be a waste of time.
