Four persons have died in yet another boat accident at Yeji in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The accident, which occurred on Monday night, saw an overloaded boat travelling from Yeji towards Makango in the East Gonja district of the Northern region capsize.
Alive FM’s Daniel Sakyi reports that, most of the passengers were returning to their hometown but missed the ferry going to the Volta region.
They then decided to cross the river with small boats available at the river bank. However, instead of five people, 17 people boarded, resulting in the accident.
Officials of the Ghana Navy have been able to rescue 12 people with four dead.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive of Yeji, Emmanuel Opoku has blamed residents for the incessant accidents on the Volta Lake; saying that the people have failed to comply with a directive not to move on the lake after 6pm.
This is the second accident on the lake this year.
