The decision comes one year ahead of the supposed June 30, 2017 end of contract.

Adidas confirmed the decision through their official site.

The mutual termination of the contract will see Chelsea paying Adidas AG a compensation fee in 2017 but allow the EPL club to enter into a new partnership with a kit sponsor which could see them earn more than they currently make with the German kit manufacturer.

Chelsea issued a statement on their website saying that "we would like to thank Adidas for their fantastic support and cooperation over the past 10 years."

Adidas who also sponsors Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich among others say the deal is not ending because of the poor form of Chelsea but because they want to sponsor fewer clubs.
