The National Communications Authority (NCA) has denied reports that it plans to ban Whatsapp, Skype and Viber calls because such calls were causing telecom companies to lose revenue.
In a statement issued issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the NCA said a statement it had initially released pertaining to the use of Whatsapp, Skype and Viber calls was meant to inform and encourage discussions and not to serve as a notice for a possible ban.
The NCA called on media houses seek clarifications from it when in doubt about its communication for the benefit of consumers.
The authority added that under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications, it would organise a digital family forum as part of this year’s World Telecom and Information Society Day to educate Ghanaians on OTT services and national roaming.
The forum will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Accra International Conference Centre, the statement added.
