Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament has dissociated himself from the brewing chieftaincy row in the Avenor traditional area in the Volta region.
According to a statement issued on his behalf, Edward Doe Adjaho said allegation made against him by Torgbui Dorglo Anumah, Fiaga of the Avenor traditional Area that he was illicitly behind the elevation of Torgbui Samlafo IV to paramount status in the area is without substance.
“It is being alleged that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, is illicitly behind this elevation saga. We are amazed by this story and cannot believe it to be true as Avenor State is solidly behind him to rise to his present status of which we are very proud of. It will be greatly appreciated if he would come out clean on this episode,” the statement signed by principal assistant clerk, Parliament of Ghana, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.
The statement further described the allegation as: “offensive, objectionable, false and without any merit”.
“Throughout his distinguish public life, the Speaker has played absolutely no role – either privately or publicly – in deciding who gets enstooled or elevated as a Chief anywhere in Ghana.”
The Speaker is thus asking the various sides to this matter to stop dragging his name and office into these chieftaincy matters.
