A number of assailants reportedly stormed an old chief’s palace on Saturday night killing one person and injuring 16 others who had gathered to watch the UEFA Champions League final between Atletico and Real Madrid.
Eye witnesses told myjoyonline.com that the gunmen opened sporadic fire on the victims, mostly women and children. Six children, eight females and two males were injured with two of the victims said to be in critical condition.
The incident occurred in Kafaba in the Gonja East district of the Northern Region. Residents attributed the shooting to the long-standing chieftaincy dispute between the people of Kafaba and Kalampor.
The critically injured were transferred from the Salaga Government Hospital to the Tamale Teaching Hospital as police continues investigations.
