A notorious robber identified as Kingsley Owusu last Friday shot and killed a police officer in a gun battle with a team of police personnel at Asofan, near Ofankor in Accra.
Owusu on seeing the police started shooting indiscriminately killing Corporal Francis Aballo, 37 and in the process injuring another police officer, Corporal David Anaba when the team had gone in to effect the arrest of the suspect.
He managed to escape arrest and has since been declared wanted by the Accra regional police command.
The police found two pump action guns, two pistols, six live cartridges, a sharp knife, three caps, a reflector and a shirt in Owusu’s room later in a search.
Affia Tenge, the police public relations officer of the Accra regional police command confirmed the news to Daily Graphic.
She said on May 21, the police got an information that a family which had arrived in Ghana from Canada to perform the final funeral rites of a relative had been attacked at the entrance of their house.
Owusu according to the report robbed them of all their belongings, including their money and personal effects at gun point.
Police intelligence zeroed in on Owusu who was hiding in an uncompleted building at Asofan.
It was in the course of the operation that an exchange of gunshots ensued between the robber and the police.
