Angry customers chase ECG staff with machetes

Angry customers at Kade in the Kwaebibirim district of the Eastern region chased out workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with machetes and clubs for attempting to disconnect them.

A month ago, residents of the area staged a massive demonstration against what they described as the outrageous utility bills charged them by ECG. The residents gave a two week ultimatum to ECG to address their concerns but nothing has been done.

In a bid to disconnect the defaulting customers, the ECG workers were met with a strict resistance by the angry youth who threatened to attack them.
