Reports say the clashes were sparked when supporters from the camp of the constituency’s parliamentary candidate, Edward Bawa, prevented a press conference held buy one of the disgruntled factions termed the ‘Lai Lai’ group from going ahead.  The development is feared to have heightened tensions in the area as unconfirmed reports allege that some of the violent members threatened to attack the very journalists who were seated at the press briefing.

So far, the Bongo police have restored calm to the area as the press conference which was held under police supervision got relocated to a safer neutral ground.
