As part of efforts to save the environment from filth, parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Klottey Korley constituency, Zanetor Rawlings joined members of her party to clean the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and its environs.
The initiative was meant to observe the National Sanitation Day in the Greater Accra Region and also commemorate a year after the June 3 twin disaster which claimed over 150 lives and injured many others. Zanetor Rawlings in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) has argued that the June 3 flood disaster could have been averted should Ghanaians adhere to environmental cleanliness.
“People cannot just drop waste in the nearby Korle Lagoon and expect disaster – free rains,” she argued.
The National Sanitation Day (NSD) was declared by the minister of local government and rural development, Julius Debrah in 2015. The day was set on the first day in November, giving birth to a national clean-up exercise on every first Saturday of the month, which entered its second phase in December.
