Floods in the capital forces ECG to shutdown power station

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) shut down its power station at Dzorwulu due to the flood situation in the national capital Thursday.

The ECG in a statement issued stated that their action is a precautionary measure. It however, opined that power will be restored to the affected areas when the flood waters subside.

ECG has had to shut down Station H at the BSP at Dzorwulu because of high levels of flowing water. This is only a precautionary measure, and power will be restored to the affected areas when the water is drained out.”

According to the ECG the following areas will experience power outage due to the shutdown: Abelemkpe, Pig farm, Dzorwulu and its environs.

Most parts of Accra have been submerged in flood following hours of heavy downpour on Thursday. Some of the worse affected areas are: Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Awoshie, Tema, Airport and Dzorwulu.
