Grace Obinna

Grace Obinna, who is a married to a Nigerian, was said to be sleeping in her room when the rapist, identified as Badoo, broke in through the window at about 1am and attacked her, according to a report by the Punch newspaper.

Grace was reportedly at home with her baby when Obinna broke in and began raping her, while hitting her head with weapons.

The report said by the time neighbours and local vigilance group members who heard the victim’s cries got to the room, the man had fled, while Grace and her baby were in a pool of blood.

Grace was rushed to two separate hospitals but they both rejected her. She was eventually sent to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed dead.

The development is said to have angered residents in the community who blocked a major road to protest Grace’s killing.

The report said Badoo had previously raped two women in the community and cut them with knives afterwards.

He is said to have also assaulted several other women in the community, including an 86-year-old, whom he injured after she resisted his attempt to rape her.

The Lagos State police have launched an investigation into the crime, the report added.

Reacting to the news, the Foreign Affairs Minister Hannah Tetteh said she had asked the Ghanaian embassy in Nigeria investigate and report back to her.
