Three of the most prestigious senior high schools in Ghana – Prempeh College, Wesley Girls High and Mfantsipim Senior High - will be facing it off at the quarter finals of the National Science & Maths Quiz.
The widely known quiz which is held annually is popular for the academic rivalry it germinates among current and former students of partaking high schools in the country. The event is known to give bragging rights to successful schools as the best among others.
The 2016 edition has been nothing short of exciting as the organisers have also gone the extra mile to promote the competition on social media, thereby widening their reach and re-igniting the high school rivalry that seemed to have been dying off.
The latest development in the competition that has kept many 'awake at night' is the upcoming battle of the brains between three of the best high schools in the country - based on their previous performances in the competition. This face-off between Prempeh College, Wesley Girls High and Mfantsipim Senior High could be the most exciting bit of the National Science & Maths Quiz this year. All three schools qualified to the quarter finals with high scores and are no doubt, each intending to continue their winning streak to hold their schools high in esteem and also 'save face'.
Only one of these schools is assured a place in the semis but the grouping has got many stranded on who to put their money on for the win, since all three schools are perceived to be academic beasts. Who will stand tall at the end of it all and who will be leaving with their tails between their legs?
The three schools are expected to go through the standard five rounds of competition, including the popular ‘question of the day’, riddles and ‘true or false’ segments.
The National Science & Maths Quiz which was developed with the intention of promoting the study of the sciences and mathematics as well as promoting a healthy rivalry between schools and students, has been in existence for several years and has become a household name and a bragging chip for those who partake. The show is airs every Saturday on GTV.
