A suspected gay primary school teacher has been sentenced to 90 years in prison by a Murang’a court for sexually assaulting 10 students.
Serving nine years for each assault consecutively, Gichia Mugi, 23, will be released when he is 113 years old.
Mugi, indecently assaulted the 10 boys at a school in Kiharu Constituency between January and May 2015. The boys, aged between 13 and 16, testified that Mugi fondled their private parts and kissed them after night preps.
The boys, aged between 13 and 16, testified that Mugi, who was also their boarding master, fondled their private parts and kissed them after night preps.
Magistrate Jesse Masiga handed him the stiff sentence, calling it a deterrence to others and adding that Mugi had breached the trust bestowed upon him by parents and committed a heinous act on boys he was supposed to look after.
The assault was brought to light after one of the boys insisted he wanted to go home with his parents after a parents - teachers’ meeting. Asked why he was so adamant to leave, the boy revealed what the teacher did to him at night.
Later, eleven other students came forward to share similar experiences but one was struck out by the court due to lack of sufficient evidence.
The headteacher of the school was also found guilty for misconduct by trying to cover up the case and has since been struck off the Teachers Service Commission roll.
