University of Ghana students angry over high utility bills

Students of the University of Ghana are angry at proposed utility fees of up to GH¢2000 which will take effect from the 2016/2017 academic year.

The students have described the plan, which will see non-residential students pay GH¢922 for water and electricity and residential students paying GH¢2,326, as harsh.

The proposed utility bill is said to be lower than the tuition fee of the students.

The university is said to have hiked utility fees for students as part of measures to clear huge debt owed to utility companies valued at about GH¢21 million.
