A family physician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Kennedy Koranchie say sleeping with lights on increases the risk of aging.
Dr Kennedy Koranchie revealed in an interview with Ultimate FM that light rays have the possibilities of reducing the quantity of melatonin in them making them prone to aging quickly.
“Sleeping under light is improper. You are supposed to sleep in total darkness that is how come our forefathers lived long.If you don’t sleep properly, you cannot bring out good stuff. Because of gadgets and internet we are changing the rhythm but we are not giving the body enough time to repair,'' he revealed.
To this end, he urged that one should allow for the 8-hour mandatory sleep conducive for the body to repair itself as a failure could be disastrous to one’s health.
