Surgery has been successfully performed on the five-year-old girl who was defiled by her 19-year-old cousin in Kumasi.
Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Thursday found a tumor in Afia’s private parts, which they said had hindered her ability to pass urine or waste, according to a report by myjoyonline.com.
The doctors will wait for two weeks to see if she can control her urine and waste. If she cannot, another surgery will be performed on her, the report said.
Afia was diagnosed with cystitis after Kofi Dapaah, 19, reportedly defiled her on countless occasions when her parents travelled to the Upper West Region for a funeral and left her in his care.
The condition, an infection of the bladder, made it difficult for her to walk or pass waste.
X-rays also reportedly revealed that she was suffering from an intestinal obstruction and that she would have to undergo two separate surgeries to correct it.
The surgeries were estimated to cost GH¢15,000.
Meanwhile, Kofi Dapaah has been jailed 24 years for defiling Afia.
