They oversee Ghana's major sectors, from finance to local governance. Sector ministers under the Mahama administration have always informed and influenced the executive decisions by the president. But how popular are some if not all of these ministers? We find out in this list of Ghana's top five popular ministers.
1. Seth Terkper
Oh yes! He is probably the only minister we hear of time and time again on radio or television. Maybe it is because it has to do with matters of the economy.Seth Terkper was the main topic of discussion during the good old IMF bailout, cedi depreciation, public and external debts. As finance minister, his actions and inactions are more likely to affect the economic fortunes of a lower middle-income economy as Ghana.
2. Dr. Omane Boamah
Hahaha! back in the day we would be calling him as the propaganda ministry or secretary to the president but things have changed and so has Omane Boamah. Handling all the executive information of the flagstaff house, he remains the best point of call even when the president sneezes or stumbles over a stone. It is amazing how he has been able to survive all through these years as one of the eloquent communication ministers Ghana has ever had.
3. Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang
In a country where most of the population are of school going age, the education minister remains one of the busiest personalities in Ghana. Indeed the education minister was made mention of in the controversial leakage of BECE papers, the underperformance of candidates in the 2015 WASSCE examination, large stretches of strike actions by teacher unions, you just name it.
4. Haruna Iddrisu
Ghana remains one of the West African countries with more labour agitations than one could count. In the midst of it all we get the Labour minister, Haruna Iddrisu always acts as the best mediator in the midst of such developments. Talking of the teeming rate of unemployment in the country, Haruna Iddrisu maybe one of the ministers most called upon by the president on issues of labour and employment policies.
5. Hanna Tetteh
She trended on social media during the controversial hosting of the Guantanamo Bay ex-detainees. Not only eloquent and well versed with issues of foreign policy, Hanna Tetteh has always been the best point of call and reference whenever Ghana gets a problem with an international body or economy. She is not only the face and representative of Ghana on the word stage but also one of the most busiest ministers who nearly got sanctioned in parliament all because of the spate of absenteeism.
