A bodyguard of Inspector General of Police John Kudalor has shot and killed a man at Alajo in Accra.
The police public relations officer, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, said Sergeant Karim Mohammed shot the man in self-defence.
According to him, thieves burgled the sergeant’s car and stole some valuable parts. The policeman, therefore, replaced the stolen parts.
He said subsequently, Sergeant Mohammed laid in wait at night and saw an unidentified man approach the car and try to force its door open.
Superintendent Arthur said the sergeant accosted the man, who tried to attack the policeman with the offensive weapon.
He said faced with a threat to his life, the policeman shot suspected thief in self-defence, leading to his death.
He said Sergeant Mohammed was arrested but had been granted bail and that initial police investigations confirm the account that he had acted in self-defence.
