Kennedy Agyepong is in the news again! This time around, for openly alleging that the chairman of the electoral commission, Charlotte Osei got her post as EC after having sex with some top executives within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). His comments have attracted severe condemnation, not only from government officials but also concerned Ghanaians alike. Here is a list of such reactions.
''As a public officer, Kennedy Agyapong should rather promote non-discrimination, respect for human dignity and gender equality,'' - Minister of gender, Nana Oye Lithur fumed. According to the minister, Ghanaian women will not countenance personal attacks on women who have committed to serve Ghana in public office.
''It is not allowed for her to be denigrated in this manner, simply because a person disagrees with her,'' - Private legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah argued.
Ace is thus calling for Ghanaians to stand up against the culture of insulting women in public offices stating that all political parties would have to speak against the insults reigned on the chairman of the electoral commission.
"If only thinking citizens and advertisers who listen to or watch the stations owned by such people would embark on a full, long-term boycott to let them feel the bite... Nonsense," - Renowned lecturer at the Ashesi university, Ogya Esi argued in a post on her Facebook page.
“I don’t think the party needs to come into this matter and I don’t think the party will go into this matter…the party shouldn’t. I don’t have evidence to what Ken is alleging, maybe he has. The media must call him and demand of him the evidence he has to his allegation. He may well be able to produce it,” - Deputy communications director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Anthony Abayifa Karbo argues.
“Charlotte Osei, the current Electoral Commission boss is not lazy and she is not dumb and she definitely won't trade her body for excellence,” - Franklin Cudjoe head of policy think-tank IMANI Ghana argues. In a statement, Mr. Cudjoe said the derogatory remarks by the NPP firebrand are regrettable and urged people who disagree with the EC boss to stop insulting her.
