The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed anger at the criticism that have trailed his verbal attack on the personality of Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei.
Speaking to party supporters at a rally in Kumasi, Agyapong said Madam Osei landed her job by giving sexual favours.
The remark has provoked outrage among some Ghanaians, with some expressing disgust at his conduct.
Several high-profile personalities, including Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur, and Private Legal Practitioner Ace Ankomah, have also condemned the MP for his comment.
But in an interview with Accra-based Adom FM, Agyapong rejected criticism of his action and fired back at his critics, asking where they were when a journalist at Accra-based Muntie FM was insulting him.
He said the journalist insulted him on a daily basis but nobody said anything to reprimand him.
“Every blessed day Monday to Friday the guy is insulting me. Insulting me for who? For NDC and for that matter President Mahama. So If I reciprocate action then you say as for Kennedy Agyapong he is hot-tempered. But when they were talking about me all this while, peace council, national what-what...everybody is there they are not saying anything. So when I respond, then you say that I’ve taken the law into my own hands."
Agyapong added that but for persistent calls from people within the NPP party for him to calm down, he would have said worse things about the EC boss.
“The woman’s posture and her attitude – we have to let people know who she is. Why are you afraid of saying it as it is? If you like, dare me. I will say more about Charlotte Osei. Read my lips go and play - the reason she is doing this ... If you dare, I will say more. As for you, a woman is doing something that is wrong and you are there saying she is a woman so… is a woman not a human being. Is a woman not a human being?”
Meanwhile, the NPP has said that it will not condemn Agyapong over his conduct.
