The Ashanti Regional police have arrested five men believed to have been involved in the murder of Corporal Frank Essel of the special weapons and tactics unit.
The suspects are Kofi Gyimah, Emmanuel Ampabeng, Kofi Nti, Kwadwo Owusu and Richard Kwabena Kyere.
The men, who police say are part of a gang of hardened criminals who kill their victims after robbing them, were arrested in a swoop by personnel of the regional command.
Corporal Essel was on Thursday, May 19, 2016, shot and killed by masked armed men in his personal vehicle at the premises of the Open Space Hotel at Denkyemuoso in Kumasi, during a robbery spree by the armed assailants, according to a report by the Ghana News Agency.
The news comes two days after the Kasoa police in the Central Region arrested two people suspected to have murdered the operations manager of the Cantonments branch of Ecobank Ghana, Seth Kweku Akyea, during a robbery attack at his residence in Kasoa in 2015.
