American singer Lionel Richie has sent a personal message to namesake, Lionel Messi following the footballers surprise decision to retire from international football.
The musician who Messi is reportedly named after had a few words of encouragement for the soccer star.
He said: “Just make it easy like a Sunday morning. Don’t get all out of shape. He is fabulous; if I tell you how many times I lost the Grammys it only makes me want to do one thing, get better. So I am not even worried about my namesake."
He expressed his firm belief that the player will bounce back next year.
Richie continued: "He will win He is a winner, obviously so it should not get this far that he get depressed easily so I am sure he is down right now but he is a lionel he can’t go wrong."
Widely regarded as one of the best footballers of all time, the Argentine forward’s announcement came after he was seen in tears having missed a penalty in a decisive shoot out against Chile.
Richie’s wise words followed the 29-year-old’s decision to quit the sport after his side lost the Copa America final.
