1.1 million illegal weapons in the custody of Ghanaians

Interior minister, Prosper Bani says about 1.1 million unregistered weapons are currently in the custody of civilians in the country.

The disturbing report by the minister shows that out of 2.3 million weapons, only 1.2 million have been captured and confiscated by the police service.

The revelations were made on during an address to the public on the observance of UN Day for Weapon Destruction at the Trade Fair Centre, in Accra which saw the distraction of 1400 seized assault rifles ranging from AK 47, G3, double barrel, local mortar, hummer, simplex, Baikal guns, local pistols, spears, bows and arrows.
