Gov't gives EC GH₵ 600 million for elections

Government has released close to GH₵ 600 million to the electoral commission ahead of this year's elections, employment and labour relations minister, Haruna Iddrisu has revealed.

Government had earlier cut the budget of the EC from GH₵ 1.5 to  GH₵ 1.2 billion - a development which got stakeholders raise concerns over the capacity of the commission with such a disbursement. Meanwhile, Haruna Iddrisu reveals that government is bent on making additional disbursements should the electoral commission make such requests.

So far, the EC has  benefited from international donor support from the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union in the excess of billions of cedis.
