In most churches, you would hear that Cannabis or marijuana and its use is evil. Anyone who uses it sins and is cursed. But is that really true? Can the use of the weed be good and acceptable? Let’s get some answers.
Is Cannabis right or wrong?
It all depends on how people use it. As Christians, we have to understand that evil does not live in the nature and such things as plants. All sin is found in the devil, and it can reside in human hearts , as well. For instance, Apostle Paul tells us something about the money:
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10)
Is money evil? No. It’s neutral. However, the LOVE of the money is evil. Paul says that coveting things brings us to sorrows. The evil is in the hearts and minds of people, and not in the things. The same thing is true for marijuana.
The plant has many virtues. In the old times, people used to make ropes and even fabric out of the plant’s stems. They also cooked food out of the seeds and got no addiction. It was a useful plant given by God to make our lives better.
Moreover, Cannabis has many medical uses. It can treat various diseases. Remember, God never created anything evil. Even the tree of knowledge of the good and evil in the Garden of Eden for meant for good. People had to be tested, gain their free will and say no to the devil, but instead, they yielded to sin and fallen short of the glory of God.
Cannabis can help treat malaria, constipation, muscle pain and even Alzheimer’s if used appropriately and only under the medical supervision.
So, can Christians approve or even use marijuana? If it is used for pleasure to get high, then no. But it can and should be utilized for medical purposes to ease the pain or treat the diseases when prescribed by the doctors!
