Qandeel Baloch, a 26-year-old Pakistani social media celebrity, popularly known as Pakistan's Kim Kardashian, has been killed by her brother in what has been described as 'honour killing' in the province of Punjab, police claim.
Baloch, synonymous with controversial and bold comments, photos and videos by which she has become a household name is said to have incurred the wrath of many by posting controversial pictures of herself on social media, including one with her in a pose with a Muslim cleric Mufti Qavi.
Police say she was strangled to death on Friday night, a claim her parents had not denied and reportedly told The Express Tribune.
Her parents who have been taken into police custody said: "Her brother Wasim, 30, killed her last night following an argument.”
They said her body was not discovered until Saturday morning.
The police said Baloch had gone to Punjab from Karachi because of the threat to her security.
Family sources stated her brothers had asked her to quit modeling and that Wasim was upset about her uploading controversial pictures online and had threatened her about it.
Police are still on the heels of her brother Wasim who is on the run.
Cases of women being killed for 'dishonouring' their family are commonplace in Pakistan.
