If you are a born again Christian, how do you date in church? Are there any rules you should follow to stay holy and pleasing God? Find out now.
Dating at church is tricky. On one hand, you got the freedom in the Lord Jesus. However, the temptations do not go. The devil can get you if you do not follow some guidelines in your personal life and dating.
Here is what the Apostle Paul has to say about it:
“The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.” (1 Timothy 5:2)
There are few things you need to do to maintain that purity not only in words but in all your actions. And that concerns both men and women, who date at church.
Surely, the lovers long for it. They want to be alone and have no one else around them. When you fall in love, the whole world means less to you than just one person. However, here is what the Bible tells us:
“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.” Proverbs 18:1
So, date in public. Pick such places where you would be around other people, but still could talk privately without being overheard by them. This way, even if you get tempted to start making out, you won’t have a chance to do so.
It means you should have at least one person you can tell everything! It could be your parent, your pastor or home group leader. Young friends are no good here. They may not give you the right kind of advice. Then do not do anything you cannot tell that special person. The rule is simple.
Church has to set the best example for the community. However, we should not adopt the patterns of this world. The culture tells people they do not have to wait; they can do whatever they want with their bodies. That is the devil’s lie. The church should have its own culture, and you are to stick with it, instead of the worldly one.
Focus on friendship
Regardless of whether we want it or not, but the passion you have for your loved one will pass. And then you end up being married to a person you have nothing in common with. So, start building up your friendly relationship before the marriage.
Do not lie
If anything you do, makes you lie to someone or feel sad over it in your heart, do not do it. Following your own consciousness is not enough. Stick with the Word of God and find a person with high moral standards to help you through this exciting but complicated period of life called dating.
If you follow these simple dating at church rules, you can preserve your purity and that of the person you love and lay a firm foundation for the happy marriage.
