Work has come to a standstill at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as workers take to the streets in protest against the board of governors.
Reports by Citi FM show that workers have mounted a checkpoint at the entrance of the corporation ahead of an expected meeting among members of the board as they have vowed to continue protesting until their demands for the dissolution of the Board of the Corporation are met.
Meanwhile, the National Media Commission (NMC) is denying claims that board members of GBC are embezzling funds. Executive Secretary of the commission, George Sarpong says these claims are false.
“The GBC union made a number of allegations to the commission. The commission established a committee to independently investigate the claims and the committee took each of the claims one by one and gave the union the opportunity to prove the case against the people. They could not substantiate any of the claims they made,” he said.
So far, GBC has revealed in a memo that all protesting workers will be punished.
