He is said to have died in a car accident at Adukrom, a town near Koforidua when a 33-seater bus crushed him.

An eye witness account claimed the bus with registration number ER 4212 C in an attempt to climb a small hill on the Adukrom road run over Offei who was jogging by the road side.

His body has since been deposited at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern Region.

Referee Emmanuel Offei was scheduled to have been in the centre of affairs as referee in the match involving Dreams FC and Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday in the ongoing 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.
