Cecilia Siaw, a 45-year-old Ghanaian woman based in the UK, was arrested just before her wedding began for immigration offences.
She reportedly bought fake identification documents to enable her to continue living in the UK after she overstayed her leave to remain in 2009, according to a report by the Mirror.
UK immigration officials reportedly swooped on the ceremony at Portsmouth Register Office, Hants, where Cecilia was due to marry her German fiancé.
They arrested her and swiftly sent her to court.
Prosecutor James Kellam said during the trial that Cecilia should have known the document she bought was fake.
“I say that because the man from whom she bought the document, she says, claimed to work for the Home Office and the defendant said she paid £5,000 for a leave to remain document,” he said.
Cecilia was consequently sentenced to six months in prison.
