Four young men have been arrested in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State for allegedly dealing in human parts.
They were arrested while looking for a buyer for a human skull, according to a report by the Vanguard newspaper.
They were said to have been arrested by the youth in the area and handed over to the police.
The suspects are Emmanuel Edet Ikot, 17, Ubong Udong, 18, Bright Effiong Okon, 19, and Okon Ita, 20.
The young men, however, denied dealing in human parts, with their alleged leader, Emmanuel Edet, stressing that he stumbled upon the skull while working at an uncompleted building.
Emmanuel said while he immediately rushed to call his friends and together they returned to the site to pick it up.
“After picking it we decided to sell it, but we did not know of any possible buyer. So, it was suggested by one of us that we take it to a native doctor in Mbo. The four of us went together but on our way, we were held by the youth leader of Mbo.
“After the skull was found on me, he called the police to arrest us. That is why we are here. I have not sold human parts before.”
The four are expected to be charged to court soon.
