An 18-year-old teenager has been arrested for selling her infant baby.
The young mother, Ezinne Okike was apprehended by the Enugu Police force with two other suspects who were allegedly buying the baby from her.
Ezinne, who hails from Isu-Mbaneze village in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is said to have been abandoned by her lover and disowned by her parents after she got pregnant hence her inability to take care of the baby.
Okike confessed to selling the baby to a buyer who she met through her best friend.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ebere Amaraizu, speaking to the press after the arrest, said the girl had sold the baby after she couldn’t take care of her baby anymore.
"The suspect narrated that when things were no longer working smoothly for her while at home, her bosom friend, identified as one Promise Godwin, 20, also from Isu Mbaneze Ohazara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State approached her and told her to come to Enugu with the child with a promise that somebody was going to take care of Ezinne and little Chisom Raphael," Amaraizu said.
The suspects are yet to be arraigned before a court for child trafficking.
