Although a scarce phenomenon nowadays, Ghana can boast of having hosted some of the most iconic celebrities right from pre-independence till date.
The likes of Maya Angelou, Malcom X and world leaders of very high statuses have been hosted in Ghana in various stages of her existence.
However, this article focuses on some of the biggest entertainers that accepted Ghana's invitation and honoured it with their gracious presence (although mostly at a fee).
1. Louis Armstrong (1956)
In May 1956, when Ghana was in its final stages of gaining independence from the British, famous singer and trumpeter Louis Armstrong visited Accra to perform to multitudes over a period of two days.
2. Muhammad Ali (1964)
Muhammad Ali visited Ghana in 1964 as part of efforts to encourage Americans of African descents to reconnect with their continent of origin.
3. Tina Turner (1971)
Tina Turner Joined visited in 1971 to celebrate Ghana's Independence Day and headlined the Soul to Soul concert.
4. Busta Rhymes (2009)
Busta Ryhmes was in Ghana 2009 and gave out an amazing performance at the Accra International Conference Centre.
5. Rick Ross (2010)
Rick Ross visited Ghana 2010 to headline a show but disappointed fans with his short appearance on stage.
6. Trey Songz (2011)
In 2011, Trey Songz was in Ghana to headline the 020 concert which was a massive hit
7. Amber Rose (2011)
Amber Rose joined Trey Songz as the main MC for the 020 concert that was held in 2011.
8. Chris Brown (2013)
In 2013, Chris Brown visited Ghana to perform and his performance turned out to be one of the most controversial one Ghana ever experienced.
9. One Direction (2013)
The group, then made up of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne where in Ghana in 2013 on a charity tour as part of their involvement with the U.K. charity organization Comic Relief.
10. Ed Sheeran (2016)
Earlier this year, Ed Sheeran spent a week or so in Accra when he flew in with Ghana’s Fuse ODG to work on some new music and also experience West African hospitality.
