Ghanaian athletes off to Brazil for Olympic Games

Ghana 15 athlete contingent for the 31st edition of the Olympic Games flew out of the country for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Sunday night.

The team which comprised of 16 officials are expected to excel in the which will be held in the Brazilian city of Rio between August 5-21.

Ghana’s team will be featuring in four sporting events namely; boxing, athletics, Judoka swimming and weightlifting.

Ghana will be presenting first time Olympians; 2 swimmers (Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson), one weightlifter Christian Amoah, one judoka who is UK-based Szandra Szogedi, and one boxer Abdul Wahid Omar.

The rest of the team members in the US will join the team in Rio.

During a sendoff party organized by GNPC, the Sports Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, reiterated he is confident the team will bring laurels to Ghana.

Meanwhile, the 10,500 athletes to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, every athlete including Ghana’s representatives will be entitled to 42 condoms each.

The International Olympics Committee for the 2016 Rio Games announced the supply of 450,000 condoms to the athletes who will be present at the Games.
