Renowned educationist Professor Stephen Adei has made a bold claim that Ghana would be in a much better place if the country possessed about 100 people like Pastor Mensah Otabil.
According to Professor Adei, the successes chalked by Pastor Otabil and his numerous ventures have greatly helped the country. The former rector of GIMPA was speaking at the 50th-anniversary lecture of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Logos Congregation, Achimota on the theme “The role of the church in the political dispensation of the country".
“We should not allow young men who have never worked until their political appointment to insult anybody let alone Pastor Mensah Otabil because of politics. This is someone who is visionary and has acted on his several visions to the benefit of this country. Such a person must be celebrated and not be crucified on the altar of politics by young people who would have been nobody had it not been politics.”
Pastor Otabil has been highly critical of the government; using sermons at his church and other speaking engagements to castigate what he perceives as inefficiencies in the government.
The governing party has hit back accusing the preacher of being a shadow member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party.
He has in turn been praised and defended by some, including the main opposition party, for his outspokenness about poor governance. Otabil is the General Overseer of the popular International Central Gospel Church; which also owns the Central University College.
