Jackline Mwende, a 28-year-old Kenyan is currently "hand-less" after he husband cut off her hands due to her inability to give birth.
The incident has been referred to as "the most atrocious case of domestic violence".
Jackline's husband, 34-year-old Stephen Ngila Thenge chopped off the hands of his wife of seven years on July 24. The victim also sustained numerous injuries on her head and neck from the attack.
According to a report by Kenyans.co.ke, the couple had been facing problems which had led to Jackline deciding to quit her marital home. She was however advised against leaving her husband by their "family pastor" according to the lady's family.
According to Ms. Mwende, she had been separated from her husband for three months due to their general inability to have children. "I could not understand why he was blaming me yet we had gone to hospital last year and the doctors had said he was the one with issues, which could be corrected," she told Nation Kenya.
Ms Mwende called out for help but the man fled before neighbours arrived. "They were all afraid of touching me, they thought I was dead. I was rushed to Machakos Hospital where I was given painkillers and got a blood transfusion. I was discharged on Friday."
The incident has left many villagers shocked as they couldn't bring themselves to comprehend why Mr. Thenge would have chopped off his wife's hands. Many people described the husband as "polite".
Stephen Ngila Thenge was arrested on July 25 and has since been in police custody awaiting trial.
